We would not have sold their skin at the beginning of the match. Against all odds, the Warriors beat the Syli National 2-1 this January 18, 2022, at the Stade Omnisports Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaounde. 64% was the possession of Guinea at the end of this game which opposed Zimbabwe. Dominated from start to finish by Naby Keita and his teammates, the game turned in favor of the Warriors.

A header by captain Knowledge Musona in the 26th minute following a corner from the right side gave the Zimbabweans confidence. As the Syli National looked to come back with all their might, Kudakwashe Mahachi put in the breakthrough goal in the 43rd minute. This was a big blow for Kaba Diawara who was hoping to get back to the score before the break. Unfortunately, it is on the score of 2-0 that both teams go to break.

Coming back from the break, it took only 4 minutes for captain Naby Keita to reduce the score. On a very powerful shot, he gave no chance to Talbert Shumba, the Zimbabwean goalkeeper. After this goal, Guinea machine-gunned the opposing defense, but nothing.  The gods of the ball turned their backs.

Despite this victory, Zimbabwe is eliminated from the competition but does not go home empty-handed.

Although they lost, Guinea finished second in group B and qualified for the round of 16. On the other side in Bafoussam, Senegal drew with Malawi (0-0). Senegal is 1st of the group B with 5 points followed by Guinea 4 points, Malawi 4 points, and Zimbabwe who lost to Guinea 3 points. Malawi hopes to qualify for the second round with its 4 points.
