Augustin Eguvoen’s squad sealed their supremacy in Group D after walloping all their opponents. In the last group game against Sudan, William Troost-Ekong and Umar Amed scored two goals for Nigeria at the Roumde Adjia Stadium in Garoua.
The Wild Dogs of Sudan played tough to break in the first half, only to bow to the experience of the Eagles in the second half.
In their first game, Nigeria sent a signal that they were out for business, as they nailed the Pharaohs of Egypt 1-0.
Egypt struggled in the game despite having one of Africa’s best players, Mohammed Salah, in their squad. Sudan is the only team that succeeded in rattling Nigeria’s net with a goal in a 3-1 bashing.
Nigeria, three-time champions, winning the Africa Cup of Nations in 1980, 1994 and 2013, has not been able to win AFCON in about eight years. The team looks set to turn the tides, showing a high technical quality with players like Ahmed Musa, Kelechi Iheanacho and Odion Ihgalo amongst others.
Coach Augustine Eguavoen who took over only about a month ago, is showing the world that Africa has great coaches.
