Evicted from the penalty shootout by Benin at the CAN 2019 in Egypt at the stage of the eighth-finals, Morocco had a heart to do better than the last edition. Leading from the 7th minute of play by the Flames of Malawi, the Atlas Lions were able to reverse the steam in the second period. After having equalized at the end of the first period (45+2) through Youssef En-Nesyri.

The Malawian goalkeeper could not do more than touch the ball with a cross-shot from close range. Earlier, Malawi’s goal was scored by Gabadinho Mhango. The Malawian striker curled the ball into the back of the Moroccan net from over 42 meters out.

In the second half, the Atlas Lions wanted to secure their victory very quickly and stifled the Flames. But the second goal would not come until the 70th minute when a free-kick from the right side of the goal was taken by Charles Thom. The ball, taken by Paris Saint Germain’s right-back Achraf Hakimi, was well lifted over the fence and into the net. The goalkeeper of the Silver Strikers in the Malawian championship was beaten (2-1).

Malawi took the lead, but Morocco dominated the game from start to finish. The possession of 75% in favor of Morocco will not deny us. Achraf Hakimi finished Man of the Match.

In the quarterfinals, Morocco will face the winner of the Ivory Coast-Egypt clash.
