The Panthers and the Atlas Lions have delivered an epic match at the Omnisports Ahmadou Ahhidjo stadium in Yaoundé this January 18, 2022. At the end of this game, the two teams confirmed their tickets for the round of 16.

After the first 20 minutes of the game, which was almost boring, the game took a different turn in the 21st minute with the goal of Jim Allevinah. After a long clearance by Jean Noël Amonome, Moroccan defender Sofyan Amrabat let the ball go to El Kajoui, his goalkeeper. The latter slipped and allowed the Gabonese striker to open the score. The score remained unchanged until the break.

After several attempts of the return of the locker room, the men of Vahid Halilhodzic return to the score on a penalty at the 74th minute of play, following a collision of Sofiane Boufal by André Poko in the Gabonese surface. The Moroccan midfielder will himself take the penalty. Undeterred, Gabon continued to push forward and scored their second goal in the 81st minute after Aaron Boupendza tried to connect with Jim Allevinah’s cross.

Just two minutes later, the Atlas Lions were back on top. After a foul on the right side of the box, Achraf Hakimi, the Paris Saint Germain right back, curled the ball into the far corner of the net (2-2). Salem Boupendza was elected Man of the Match.

If Morocco, the first of this group, does not know its opponent yet, Gabon will face Burkina Faso, second of group A.
